General Director The need to develop an effective capacity to generate and transfer technology in Honduras permitted the establishing of the Honduran Agricultural Research Foundation (FHIA). The Ministry of Agriculture and Cattle and the USAID joined forces to design the original project that created the Foundation in 1984. Simultaneously the project took advantage of the recent decision of the United Brands Company to end its banana research activities in La Lima, Cortés, and to transfer the installations to the Government of Honduras. That is how the Foundation was created within the installations of this company and that are presently still being used. Presently the Foundation has its installations en La Lima, and six Demonstrative and Experimental Centers located in different climates and agricultural regions of the country. The Foundation was created as a private, apolitical not-for-profit business Its highest authority is the Assembly. The Administration Counsel, elected by the Assembly, is made up of nine persons, of which its president, the Minister of Agriculture and Cattle, represents the Government of Honduras. The other members of the Administration Counsel are partners of the Foundation, representatives from the business sector and private sectors of the country. We are very pleased to present to you this site on the World Wide Web. We plan to present in it the main results of our research and other activities as they become available. Regards, Adolfo Martinez |
